William Delahoy Junior
William, son of William and
Ellen, was born on 30 Jun 1856 at Kooringa, District of Burra, South
Australia. He was about four years old when the family arrived in the Avoca
area. He was thirteen years old when his little brother Henry died and his
father died in Omeo in early 1870. He probably moved to Great Western with his
mother and then took off on his own some time after that.
No trace of him has been found after leaving his family until he showed up dead in Broken Hill, New South Wales aged 31. His death certificate states he died on or about 18 Dec 1887 three miles north of Broken Hill. They thought he was about 27 and the cause of death was "strangulation, self inflicted". He was buried in Broken Hill Cemetery three weeks after the marriage of his brother Walter. The death certificate incorrectly shows his name as Walter Delahoy. Why would they think his name was Walter?
